Energy Providers

Citizens Advice information on vanishing energy suppliers

Many people have recently had the disconcerting experience of seeing their energy supplier break up and go out of business during the recent energy price fluctuations. It sounds pretty drastic, but the situation isn’t as bad as it seems.

If you are one of those affected, remember these key facts: first of all, the gas or electricity supply itself won’t be interrupted, so don’t be concerned about that. Next, you should know that Ofgem, the industry regulator, will automatically move you to a new supplier. This usually takes a few weeks.

Wait for your new supplier to contact you. They will explain what will happen with your new account. But contact the new supplier yourself if you haven’t heard from them within two weeks. You can check on www.citizensadvice.org.uk (“check who’s taken over your energy supply”) if you’re not sure who your new supplier is. (See below for links)

While you’re waiting to hear from the new supplier, it’s a good idea to take meter readings (and a photo of the readings) as they might prove useful later. Make a note of your account balance too. Keep any old bills you have, as these can help prove your payment history, credit balance or debt.

White Horse Lottery

White Horse Lottery digital leaflet – April 2022

Vale Community Impact (the new trading name of Wantage Independent Advice Centre) provides three valued services for the community: an Advice Centre, Community Transport and Good Neighbour Services.

If you have heard of us and would like to support our efforts, why not take part in the community lottery. For as little as £1 a week, you could be in with a chance to win a cash or a prize and we directly benefit from your contribution. We know that times are tough, so we’d be extremely grateful for your support. Here’s where you can get all the information you need to take part in the White Horse Lottery for Vale Community Impact, and be a potential winner!

Here’s a message of thanks from our Chairman:

We need your help so we can continue to offer and even expand our services!  We really want to make sure that residents of the Vale know that we are here to provide them with assistance and also spread the word that volunteering with us can make a real difference to both the volunteer and the VCI client.

Thank you for your support and good luck!

Yours sincerely,

Graham Beith, Chairman

Covid Winter Grant and Emergency Assistance Schemes

Over the last 9 months, Vale Community Impact was one of just two partners selected to administer the central government’s Emergency Assistance and Covid Winter Grant Schemes, on behalf of the Vale of White Horse District Council & Oxfordshire County Council.

The Schemes drew to a close in late June, with VCI having helped 359 eligible households (or individuals) receive a total of £89,000 under these particular initiatives.
