GOOD NEIGHBOUR SCHEME

Do you need help with small tasks around the home or maybe just someone to pop in for a chat? Do you know someone who does?

Founded in 2009 our Good Neighbour scheme provides volunteers to help with tasks that our elderly or vulnerable clients find too difficult. For example, we can help with paperwork, befriend and chat, share hobbies, or collect prescriptions for someone who is otherwise isolated.

The Good Neighbour Scheme also has a Shopping Service. This has run since 2021.

Founded in 2009 our Good Neighbour scheme provides volunteers to help with tasks that our elderly or vulnerable clients find too difficult. For example, we can help with paperwork, befriend and chat, share hobbies, put up shelves or collect prescriptions for someone who is otherwise isolated.

A new Shopping Service was launched within the Good Neighbour Scheme in July 2021.

One of our co-ordinators will visit you at your home to make an initial assessment and then will allocate the most appropriate volunteer for you.

New referrals can be made by an individual, family member, friend, medical professional or a third party agency. If you are unsure, make the referral for our co-ordinators to consider. We will ask that, where appropriate, the individual is aware that a referral is being made.

Our Good Neighbour Scheme runs a Shopping Service. One of our volunteers can do your shopping for you, take you to the shops, offer a little extra help as you navigate the store aisles or teach you how to use the computer to do an on-line shop.

Everyone who joins the Shopping Service will have a home visit before the service starts to make sure everything is clear and understood.

Thousands of hours were clocked up by the Good Neighbour volunteers providing a friendly ear, offering companionship and making connections that truly bring a little smile, an occasional tear making a great deal of difference to those who feel forgotten or lost within their local area.

VCI has over 48 volunteer Good Neighbours and in 2023 our scheme gave more than 4,100 consultations. This resulted in 2,074 home befriending visits with 323 different clients receiving support.

The Good Neighbour scheme is provided free of charge,
however voluntary donations are always very welcome.

There is a £2.00 per month membership fee for the Shopping Service.
