Welcome to Great Big Green Week 2025! 🎉 At Vale Community Impact (VCI), we’re excited to help you take simple, meaningful steps toward a greener lifestyle. Today, we’re focusing on greening your home—because small changes really do add up.
💡 Easy Energy-Saving Swaps:
- Switch to LED bulbs – They use up to 80% less energy than traditional bulbs.
- Turn off appliances at the wall – Standby mode still uses power!
- Use draft excluders or thermal curtains – Keep the warmth in and the bills down.
- Wash clothes at 30°C – It’s just as effective and saves energy.
- Collect rainwater for your garden – Free water, less waste!
🛠️ DIY: How to Make a Rainwater Collector
You can make a simple water butt using:
- A large plastic bin or barrel
- A lid or mesh cover to keep out debris
- A tap kit (available at garden centres)
- A downpipe diverter to connect to your gutter
Place it under a downpipe, and you’re ready to collect rainwater for your plants!
